NDS, Obama, etc.
It's true that we need common space in order to exercise our 1st Amendment rights, and that's why it is important to preserve our virtual, as well as our actual, common spaces.

While virtual gatherings are not a replacement for actual, in your face experience, they do help us to unite our talents and discuss our visions. Support Internet freedom!
ND(p?)S - Nature Deprivation Syndrome.
I think most of us experience this at one point or another. It's symptoms include obsessive behavior, irritabillity, and lethargy. A feeling of 'disconnect' and general malaise.
If you go to your doctor and describe these symptoms to him or her, you will be given Effexor, Prozac, etc. Maybe all you need are regular walks in the forest, or some outdoor, physical labor? I guess there is no money in chopping wood or building a wigwam, though, so, by Ford, start poppin' them pillz!
Obama
When I first listened to Obama, my heart swelled.... here was someone who had at least a partial clue to what is going on! I found myself drawn in, and this caused me to become suspicious: often times, truth is not beautiful, and the picture he painted was too perfect.
I studied Obama, and read his book, "The Audacity of Hope". I realized he was more of a centrist than anything, but I was still ok with that.... anything is better than what we have been dealing with (notice the lowered expectation factor). Then, I saw whom he had picked for his financial advisory team, and I abandoned any hope he would bring about real change. Throw that on top of the fact he accepts party money....
Bill, you seem personally offended (and surprised) by Obamas reaction to the latest Israeli atrocity. Did you just believe him when he said he was the "Peace Candidate"? How can you trust such a statement from a man who appoints Penny Pritzker as his finance chair during his Senate run, then proceeds to wrap himself in the banner of liberalism? Obama has been pulling this stuff for a long time.
However, as you said, even bad apples can produce fertile crops. People DID gather together in vast numbers.... they DID become more politically active/aware due to his campaign.... they DID feel hope, and this is what we should focus on. Amen?
