Today: 7th show in 7 days...
It’s Friday, this must be Birmingham. Yesterday was most definitely Liverpool: A heady mix of activism and theater, the Nazi-bombed cathedral and the radical bookstore and police on horseback following us from our latest cash till exorcized of its mono-cultural demon. Every day more members of Parliament resign as their expense account scandal spreads. One of the taxpayer-paid items was an MP’s duck house, and the purchase of the duck house has become the comic tag line for our Shopocalypse tour. All I have to do is say the phrase “duck house” and the Church of Stop the Duck House Shopping is founded. It finds its way into every sermon, our cheapest laugh but so user-friendly. Our final activist visit of the day in Liverpool was the home of Gary and Lena Simic. They have converted their 3rd bedroom (they have 3 children, Neal, Gabriel and Sid) in their modest home into - The Institute for the Art and Practice of Dissent at Home. This is a radical meditation room, a kid's play-room, a library of literature about social change, and a resting place for passing-through international activists. We found ourselves packed together in there, drinking tea with the Simics and their kids, and eventually we were moved to laughter and tears as all of us began to sing testimonials to our hopes. Our Fabulous Worship last night? So energized by that little radical bedroom. We left Liverpool still buzzy from it. How could those dedicated few square yards be such a powerful thing? Change-a-lujah!

Liverpool Bluecoat night

Wow ... what can we say Reverend! You and your choir&band blew us away at the Bluecoat last night.

Its a real shame you're not doing more dates in the North - we'd be coming to church again if we could.

I echo one of the posts from Cambridge when I say please forgive the restraint of us in the UK - the audience were getting swept up in it but it might have been hard to tell. We were screaming out 'Change - a - lujah!' on the inside.

Thanks again to you all for coming up to Liverpool and creating an unforgettable night.

Liverpool, Birmingham and tomorrow London

Don't think that we are complaining about British reserve.  The audiences do have a way, and this includes your group in Liverpool, of conveying enthusiasm.  We loved the spiritual hijinks of that night, we loved it.  The performance was a ride into the unknown, but was deeply rewarding, moving, and a challenge to all of us to radically re-approach our communities...  -------Rev
