Jeff Luers is Free
Two days ago Jeff "Free" Luers was released from prison after 9.5 years, Free is a forest defender who at the age of 23 was convicted of burning three SUVS at a car dealership in Oregon. His original sentence was 22 years and 8 months, but after years of intense work by Free and his defense team was eventually reduced to 9.5. Background HERE
I do not know Free personally but have followed his story since the beginning, read his writings . He grapples with the merits of his actions, life in prison, the ethics of non-violence and the challenges we face as earth loving people. It is a terrible irony that he would be released while thousands of people are being turned away and arrested at Climate Talks in Copenhagen. I wish I could say we had acheived more while he was in prison.
Welcome Back Free!
