Just In Time to Make Me Crazy!

Just In Time to Make Me Crazy!
coffee farmers
Starbucks launched their completely sinister STARBUCKS LOVE PROJECT today, replete with a flock of paper peace cranes turning into a map of the world. Is it the same map on which they plot world domination? This new really slick site  is built around a simultaneous global virtual sing along of All You Need is Love ( way to go Yoko) -- you can also submit drawings about love -- this is their contribution to the PRODUCT RED campaign. Neat! To bad Starbucks doesn't know that much about love, like love for coffee farmers and their families or independent coffe shops or baristas trying to unionize. It takes about 10 seconds to make a drawing. Mine said LOVE= %100 Fair Trade. Go do your own.

Changeluyah!

In a time when our televisions are getting bigger and our hearts are getting smaller, you guys are a real light in the dark. My love goes out to you in this festive season.

Fair Trade all the way baby!

Thank you for posting this link! On my way over to write about fair trade as well. Hopefully our voices will be heard!

You all are a light in the darkness - keep up your good work. We will do all we can in our communities as well. Thank You!

Ex-Baristalujah!!

Ohhhhh, Starbucks. The power you hold over the daily life of the average joe (no pun intended). I worked for Starbucks for two years and let me tell you! They are most definitely evil-doers. I certainly had my fair share of fun with my co-baristas while I was working there and by "fun", I do mean "stickin' it to the MAN!". This was something we did in our own little ways on a daily basis so that we felt better about working for a company that we knew was screwy at every level. They really try to brain wash people there. I am generally open minded and normally play the devil's advocate in any argument, but there are certain situations when ya gotta call 'em like ya sees 'em. They want employees to think that Starbucks is such a great company to work for and they stress that SOME of their coffee is fair trade. SOME=less than a handfull of all beans, but they shove it down your throat until you feel good (or bad) about it. There was so much lying and scheming going on behind the scenes and as soon as someone found out about it they were mysteriously transferred to another store or "replaced", a.k.a. fired. Aside from all of this nonsense that people don't know about unless they have worked for a corporate company like Starbucks, the saddest part about it was that some customers would come in 2, 3, 4 times a day and we just knew there was no way they could afford to be spending that kind of money on coffee. The prices are unreasonable. We weren't even allowed to give free coffee and tea refills to the customers who came in multiple times a day. CRAZY. Unfortunately, these are the people who are spending a lot of money and keeping the business going, but we can't give them a free refill?? Now, that's gotta be a sin in someone's book...
